Andrew Harvey's workaround works for me for these examples. But if you want to have the examples work elsewhere on the server outside of the eaxmples directory, the "script src=" links within the files should be edited to use the absolute paths like:
/javascript/openlayers/OpenLayers.js /javascript/openlayers/theme/... /javascript/openlayers/img/... It also seems like some of these examples use firebug, e.g.: click-handler.html or debug.html I'm not sure how to fix those.
