Package: ifupdown-extra Version: 0.22 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer,
* running ifdown on an interface stopped the ntp service and forced the clock with ntpdate * NTP was already running on the system, and it's clock was synced within expectations * Clock was forced backwards, which could've lead to data loss for sensitive applications. * Network services to be restored There are several classes of applications (databases for example) that don't really handle their clocks being forced backwards, an in general this is back practice. Network interfaces may be brought up and down as a matter of routine or reconfiguration during normal runtimes. The ntpdate script portion of this stops a running and functional ntp service and forcibly sets the date backwards, which is not expected during normal operations. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers precise-updates APT policy: (500, 'precise-updates'), (500, 'precise-security'), (500, 'precise'), (100, 'precise-backports') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.5.0-23-generic (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages ifupdown-extra depends on: ii arping 2.09-2 ii bind9-host [host] 1:9.8.1.dfsg.P1-4ubuntu0.5 ii dpkg 1.16.1.2ubuntu7.1 ii iproute 20111117-1ubuntu2 ii iputils-ping [ping] 3:20101006-1ubuntu1 ii net-tools 1.60-24.1ubuntu2 ii netcat-openbsd [netcat] 1.89-4ubuntu1 Versions of packages ifupdown-extra recommends: ii ethtool 1:3.1-1 ifupdown-extra suggests no packages. -- Configuration Files: /etc/network/routes [Errno 13] Permission denied: u'/etc/network/routes' -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
