Dear Asheesh, This bug is solved in Alpine 2.10, which you can get from my website. Notice that debian rejects messages that have the freeiz dot com url in them, so I have to change it a bit. Here is the released version of Alpine 2.10.

Sadly, Eduardo Chappa does not give us permission to share his work under the terms of the Apache 2.0 License, so we can't include it.
If there is another way to improve the Debian package to have this bug fixed, that'd be great. One way is as follows:
In particular, if you can describe the fix in English in a way that does not include copyrighted code by Mr. Chappa, then someone in the Debian community can reimplement it.
I have not yet read that patch file, so I could implement it if you did that and it was a fairly simple change.
