Dear Asheesh,
This bug is fixed in Alpine 2.10, which was released January 13, 2013.
You can get Alpine 2.10 from

Thank you.

Hi Martin,
That's great to know!
Mr. Chappa and the re-alpine team (and myself) seemed to experience a
disagreement over copyright licensing in the past, and as far as I know,
that's not yet resolved. So I think we can't put his patches into the
Debian package. (Eduardo, let me know if there's an update to that, or
if I'm mis-remembering.)
Thinking about a next step...
Perhaps Martin, if you're literate in C, you can write a note in plain
English to this bug report summarizing what the core problem is that
Eduardo's patch fixes, and if someone else who hasn't seen Eduardo's
work wants to write a patch that fixes the issue, and that person is
willing to license the patch under the terms of the Apache License 2.0
so it can be put into the main re-alpine project, and also distributed
with the Debian package.
I'm hoping not to fan any flames. I realize this can be a touchy
subject.
