As you might have seen, I have uploaded a possible patch for this issue to Debian experimental, as cups 1.6.1-2 . Can you possibly try cups 1.6.1-2 and report on this bug if it works reliably for you? If that's the case, I might backport the fix to Wheezy and try to get it through (which I doubt is possible at this point of the freeze though).
