If anybody's interested, I opted for #2 above; installing another server: 'bozohttpd' -- it's interesting because its default install doesn't even run it as a daemon, what happens is that 'inetd' calls it as needed. BTW, the reason for reducing the severity to 'wishlist' isn't obvious. When a package field is inaccurate to a degree that impairs the package's proper (or former) use, that doesn't sound like: wishlist for any feature request, and also for any bugs that are very difficult to fix due to major design considerations. http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Developer#severities The feature in question (CGI) already seems to exist, so it's not a feature request.
