I agree this would greatly improve the whole Wheezy desktop user experience. To ensure the changes are good enough to be unblocked, how about publishing a call for testers then (e.g. a blog post or something) with a few "user stories" that are affected / might be broken by the proposed changes and could be tested at will in various contexts? E.g. "connect to a WEP Wi-Fi network whose secret is already known" (and see if it migrates to the keyring -- should it?), "connect to a WPA Wi-Fi network whose secret is not known yet, reboot, connect again, I should not be asked the secret again", etc. (No, I'm not volunteering for anything more than testing these user stories once before they're published.) But perhaps I'm making it too much of a deal and the release team would be happy to unblock this package without all these efforts that might be better spend elsewhere.
