This is the same bug as known as the #271622 bugzilla bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=271622 which is assigned to Christopher Blizzard <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> and is UNCONFIRMED I confirm this is a bug in firefox or at least in the debian 1.0+dfsg.1-2 packaged version. It is reproducible, the simplest way (at least now): visit http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~mgk25/eurotest/euro.html-u You should have seen a single Euro sign; instead of you see two black diamond replacement characters, separated by a comma. A more complex test page, where you will find much more incorrect output is: http://www.topology.org/php/alpha.php - go to the bottom of the page (no replacement characters should be there in the foreign language texts, right?). Remarks: this is a bug which is there from several months ago, or more correctly which comes and goes with some versions of mozilla and firefox. Most probably it heavily depends on the packaging ie. on the versions of the libraries. galeon 1.3.19-1 (using the same system with the same font preferences) shows a correct output, it does not have this bug. I used the Bitstream Vera unicode fonts in both browsers.
