Sorry, no luck reproducing using your instructions.
Can you try removing "~/.galculator" file and check if it help?
If it didn't help please try removing "~/.config/galculator/galculator.conf"
as well (that's where new galculator import old configuration).
I hope it'll work -- I have no other ideas...
Also it may be helpful if you send information about installed libraries using
"reportbug" as the issue is not reproducible in clean install on amd64 or
i386. What's your Debian architecture?
