No, there was no misunderstanding. It was totally my fault for not testing it with a newer version, but at that time, I wasn’t really able to either. So your assumption it should have been fixed was justified, especially with upstream saying so too, and I had hoped it was indeed fixed (in some other way than the one my patch does), only to discover today that it wasn’t.
