Package: qemu-system
Version: 1.1.2+dfsg-3

Nested KVM guests don't work with qemu-system (qemu-system-x86_64) on
amd64 arch. When the nested guest is started, the guest on physical host
crashes (and consumes all available CPU time available from it from this
onwards). There are no error messages, just a hard crash.

Nested KVM guests run fine if the guest on physical hardware uses
qemu-kvm (same version) instead.

To use nested guests, one must pass nested=1 argument to kvm-intel (or
kvm-amd I guess) to enable nested guests and use -cpu core2duo,+vmx
option for qemu-kvm to the guest that's to be run on the physical
machine. This machine has an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU.

While this issue as itself isn't grave and might well be a property of
the upstream QEMU, I guess that eventually qemu-kvm will be replaced by
qemu-system, so it might be worth tracking this to ensure nested guests
work fine at that time. Other than that, I'm happily using
qemu-system-x86_64 for my KVM guests where I don't need nested guest.

Thanks.
