Because I have no access to an amd64-machine, it would be nice, if you 
could provide some additional infos.

Could you please provide after plugging in the camera the output of:
$ strace dvgrab
$ lsmod |grep 1394
$ ls -l /dev/*1394*

and a backtrace with gdb:
$ gdb dvgrab
-> run
-> bt (after segfault)

> with dmesg; I see the following:
