Package: debian-reference
Version: 2.49
Severity: wishlist

This has been reported to me. Thanks.

Let's keep this in BTS so I won't loose this. (It was in my gmail spam box.).

Since neither of us are English native speaker, I do not know which is
better. In general, I trust Germans and French over Japanese for the
correctness of English grammar. Those points on "use of plural" "use of
a/an/the" ... are all valid points, e.g., "good idea" -> "a good idea".
(These are all trivial unfuzzy candidate changes.)

Small differences are:

-"(right) clicking the center of the screen and hope for a menu to pop-up."
+"(right) clicking the center of the background and hope for a menu to pop-up."

I see the point. "background of desktop screen" or something is more explicit.
Let's think ...

As for "owner", let's check manpage of chown:

en_US.utf8: chown - change file owner and group
de_DE.utf8: chown - Besitzer und Gruppe von Dateien ändern

Based on these, I think it is more common to use owner in the UNIX
context.

-"--- it does not store data, it just links two processes like the shell "
+"--- it does not store data, it just links two processes like the shell with "
"\"<literal>|</literal>\". However, since this pipe has a name, the two "

Not exactly ... Here, I meant:
--- it links two processes just like the facility offered by the shell
      "\"<literal>|</literal>\" syntax.
Let's think.

"The Linux kernel may complain \"Too many open files\". You can fix this by "
"increasing \"<literal>file-max</literal>\" value to a larger value from the "
"root shell, e.g., \"<literal>echo \"65536\" > /proc/sys/fs/file-max</"
+### HW: my default stable system contains "206224" here as default value
+### HW: (I did not ever change this by hand). Maybe this paragraph can be
+### HW: skipped completely?
"literal>\" (This was needed on older kernels)."
msgstr ""

Maybe "The Linux kernel" -> "The older Linux kernel". (Maybe this is too old
info now. I should think about dropping it.

+### HW: there isn't a real 'linux-doc' package in Stable anymore, right?
+### HW: reword this to linux-doc-2.6.* package:
+### HW: (the same as in the paragraph about documentation regarding procfs and
sysfs)
+### HW:
+### HW: Ouch, wheezy is released with kernel 3.2. So the above is still wrong.

Well I still see linux-doc meta-package which install pertinent version.
That will be <literal>linux-doc-*</literal> package.

Instead of "2.6.*", make it "*" too.

Here is the original diff:
