Yes, I tried to install gnucash 2.4.10 before running apt-get update. 2.4.10 seems to have installed fine after following steps correctly.
Ended up restoring system image. Sorry about sending to BTS. I noticed squeeze-backports is listed with other versions on packages.debian.org and made an assumption. Sincerely, Scott
