The good is that upstream uses git, I could check the individual commits. The bad is that the places where it FTBFS are assembly codes. Upstream reworked that parts with the relevant C code as well. So it's not easy, I'd say impossible for me to backport those changes. I don't speak ARM nor Sparc ASM at least. Would it be acceptable to let 0.4.0-1 migrate to Wheezy? It fixes all the problems, in the archive since August without any problem. Last, but not least it fixes several packaging problems as well.
