Package: rtorrent
Version: 0.3.4-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

for users begind a NAT router with dynamic IP (like most dsl users) it
would be nice if one could change the IP rtorrent reports to the
tracker without restarting it. For this I can think of two options
which might both be intresting on their own:

1) Set IP to a dns name and have rtorrent lookup the dns again and
again at certain intervals. Most dsl routers support the use of dyndns
or similar service to automatically update a dns entry and rtorrent
would see that change after a short while.

2) Add a unix domain socket (or tcp/ip) over which one can send
control messages to rtorrent. A nice example of this method is "xmms
-e new_song.mp3" to add a song to the xmms playlist. The control
messages would not have to be limited to just changing the IP but
could just as well add/remove torrents, change the bandwith throttle
or any other parameter. One could have a cron job that increases
bandwith during the night and decreases it during office hours with
this.

PS: If you already do 1) then adding a hint about it in the manpage
would qualify for closing this wishlist.
