Perhaps you are missing GIO backends and need to install GVFS?

If the above sentence is true, it should be on all such error messages,
not just my last one.

Yes I didn't install all of these:

Versions of packages gimp suggests:
pn  gimp-data-extras          <none>
pn  gimp-help-en | gimp-help  <none>
pn  gvfs-backends             <none>
ii  libasound2                1.0.25-4

But the error messages should remind the user that is the problem.

Currently only the last message in my test tells the user he needs to
install something. The rest don't tell him what went wrong.
