Please do not play severity ping pong. Those qualities have nothing to do with whether something is release-worthy. Debian carries plenty of patches that are backports from upstream. If Mike fixes the flaw in his patch, he has the right to fight for its inclusion since it fixes a part of the package that's quite broken now.
