In particular, -x won't work if your x-terminal-emulator points to xterm. As noted in #457846 and #488974, gnome-terminal's -x option is a nicer command-line interface than xterm -e, but it's non-standard. If n-o-t can't be adapted to work with any Policy-compliant x-terminal-emulator, hard-coding gnome-terminal (the real one, not the wrapper) would also work, with some loss of functionality (inability to launch a configured non-GNOME terminal that happens to support -x in a way compatible with gnome-terminal).
