I've seen ferm is in the list of candidates for removal from testing.

I would find it sad to see ferm removed from Wheezy because of this
bug. Without action from Alexander on that bug since it was reported
in September, it looks like NMU is the way to go.

What's needed to make it happen?
Salvatore, do you feel confident enough in your proposed solution,
or do you think an additional review is needed before the RT's one?
(I would not mind to do it if you feel it's needed, but else I can
surely find better ways to use my time :)
