I tested the suggested configuration on LCD and CRT. As reported already, results on LCD are awesome. Results on CRT are good enough. Congrats! Tagging patch accordingly. Bumping severity to normal, as once you've seen the difference, you know how much degraded your experience of the Debian desktop was previously. We might want to get this into Wheezy at the same time as the fix for #684923.
