I can see some differences between the two backends, they don't look
like duplicates.

Dropping support for Epson scanners supported in snapscan backend is not
a solution.

Please note some Epson scanners are different than other ones.
E.g. in SANE some Epson scanners must be run with epson backend while
other with snapscan backend.
