Thanks for the review.  Except for the + -> :+ change (using the non-:
form allows users to override the default in their environment), I
like all your proposed changes.

I guess it would be nice to have a separate bugreport so this doesn't
get forgotten if you're interested.  (Or to send the latest patch to
debian-kernel@ and then apply it if appropriate.  I don't know what
the commit policy is.)
