Hello Douglas,
thanks for your feature request.

My first gut feeling about the feasibility and motivation of this
change is that *maybe* it could be a good idea, or *maybe not*.

I am under the impression that apt-listbugs could have been designed to
use /etc/apt/preferences.d/apt-listbugs from the beginning (assuming
that the directory /etc/apt/preferences.d/ was available when
apt-listbugs was first designed and implemented...), and it would have
probably been a reasonable design choice.

But switching from one strategy (/etc/apt/preferences) to another
(/etc/apt/preferences.d/apt-listbugs) could be tricky and implementing
a safe transition could be less than painless...

Hence, I *may* be persuaded to implement this change in the future (of
course not during a freeze, so we will have to wait until after the
wheezy release, at a bare minimum!), but there need to be *significant*
advantages with the new strategy in order to persuade me.

Could you please briefly elaborate on the rationale behind your feature
request?
Why do you think that apt-listbugs would be a better package with this
change?

Please let me know.
Thanks for your time!
