Hi,

        Indeed, I do have libsasl2-modules on client side:
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
|
Status=Not/Inst/Conf-files/Unpacked/halF-conf/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend
|/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name                   Version          Architecture     Description
+++-======================-================-================-==================================================
ii  libsasl2-modules:amd64 2.1.25.dfsg1-5   amd64            Cyrus
SASL - pluggable authentication modules

        As an additional note, when I try to relay through sendmail, I get
the message in /var/log/auth.log on the server:
==================================================
Oct 17 15:14:11 ip-10-248-0-85 saslauthd[12040]: pam_unix(smtp:auth):
authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty= ruser= rhost=
user=srivasta
Oct 17 15:14:13 ip-10-248-0-85 saslauthd[12040]: DEBUG: auth_pam:
pam_authenticate failed: Authentication failure
Oct 17 15:14:13 ip-10-248-0-85 saslauthd[12040]: do_auth         :
auth failure: [user=srivasta] [service=smtp] [realm=] [mech=pam]
[reason=PAM auth error]
==================================================

        However, sending via icedove does not add any entry to the auth.log
file, which implies that the mails are being handled differently

        Icedove outgoing settings:

Server name: smtp.golden-gryphon.com
Port:        587
Username:    srivasta
Authentication Methos: Normal password
Connection Security: STARTTLS

I suspect that the difference lies in the saslauthd versus normal
password, though I can't seem t find a way to set the "normal
password" method on the client sendmail.
