Package: byobu
Version: 2.80-1+squeeze1
Severity: wishlist

I have an SSH machine with byobu to which I often connect using PuTTY, which
would call `byobu` by default. Most of the time, I already have a session
open.

The problem for me is that with this setup, I hardly ever name my sessions
in a sensible manner, because at the moment I decide to create new one, I have
no option to choose the name right away.

Sure, I could call byobu manually each time, but that would be too much of
a hassle--especially in case of quick & dirty operations (which may not end
up quick & dirty, so not using byou is not an option), I like this setup as
it makes byobu stand aside yet still serve perfectly.

The idea is simple: Make it possible to name the session at the moment it's
created from the menu.

One way how to design this without hindering current functionality would
be simply to allow syntax like "5 vpnfix", then parse the number first, and
use the rest of line as the new name.

Example:

> Byobu sessions...

> 1. 18206.pts-0.mysite (10/15/2012 09:26:30 PM) (Attached)
> 2. 3398.pts-0.mysite (10/15/2012 01:47:17 PM) (Detached)
> 3.
> 4. Create a new session

At the above prompt, typing "4 gitpush" would create new session named
"gitpush".

~

Additionally, this could be enhanced to allow for renaming from this menu---in
the above example, saying "1 newhost" would rename ssession 1 to "newhost" and
switch to it.

I believe that from UX point, this would be perfect place for tiny session
management: this is where you'd most naturally concentrate on number and
value of your sessions---especially if you are returning to to one.
