Yes, that's an obvious mistake. But to my defense, I made 28 of them, so
of course, there are some errors.
If you have time, feel free to test patches for each of the bugs I sent,
as I didn't have time to do that last week-end. :)
The goal was more to show each maintainer what the problem was, rather
than providing fully tested and working patches. I'm sure there's more
findings that would be made some of the packages that I investigated,
but there is only a finite amount of time in each day!
With my mgetty maintainer hat on, I refuse any NMU with this (or a
similar) patch applied, unless otherwise authorized by me (as
exception of my "easy NMU policy" I usually use for all packages).

I am happy to read there's still someone maintaining such ancient piece
of history like mgetty. The debian/changelog is impressive! :P
Will you package latest upstream version of mgetty for Jessie?
