I see the same problem at version 3.4.1-3. I do not see any "funny" log lines, just two copies of
Window manager warning: Buggy client sent a _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message with a timestamp of 0 for 0xc00007 (Login Wind) Window manager warning: meta_window_activate called by a pager with a 0 timestamp; the pager needs to be fixed. added to /var/log/gdm3/:0-greeter.log . I can press Atl-Ctrl-Backspace to cause the X server to die, then X and the greeter restart correctly.
