I am also affected by this bug and it would be great if Debian could patch XChat.
The following Gnome-Shell extension: <https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/150/message-notifier/> is helpful in that it can make all those notify-send icons in the systray go away, but the Ideal Thing To Do would be to fix xchat so it uses the correct libnotify (.so.4 instead of .so.1 etc) as discussed in <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=693362> -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
