One more point is that, as of the somewhat recent discussion in debian-devel@ (e. g., [1]), the inclusion of “minified” sources in Debian source packages is “discouraged”, if not considered a violation of DFSG. Thus, I guess that, unless such files are dropped (or replaced with “pristine” versions) upstream, repackaging the source package may still be necessary.
