What version of mplayer do you use?
(dpkg -l | grep mplayer)
How do you run it?
What does it output (in the console)?
Does it work if you use something else than vdpau?
e.g. mplayer -vo x11 ...

How is your nvidia software setup?
Run (on the system where you have the problems)
   reportbug -N 685907
this will collect useful information and send it to this bug report.

And probably before you do all this, first update to the latest driver
version in unstable.

In your first mail, you were talking about "compiling" something. What
are you trying to do?
If you are compiling mplayer yourself - please try the mplayer package
in Debian - does this work?

The mplayer is from svn
I run it mplayer -vo vdpau -vc ffh264vdpau
