You see that this is a wishlist bug and that the Debian archive is now in a
freeze for the wheezy release, right?

That sounds like a grave problem with upstream.  The ODBC ABI has been fixed
for decades; there should not have been any version bumps here, and the fact
that there has been one means this is going to require careful scrutiny
before being integrated into Debian.
