Subject: apt-listchanges: breaks existing apt behavior Package: apt-listchanges Severity: important
Dear Maintainer, the same bug has previously been reported on launchpad. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt-listchanges/+bug/788519 apt-listchanges breaks apt by removing its non-interactivity. non-interactivity is a crucial part of why i use linux. man apt-get reports that apt-get -y should assume yes to everything. this is handy for leaving the computer to dist-upgrade over the course of a day. even a supposedly 100% non-interactive dist-upgrade strategy, such as specified in this serverfault question (http://serverfault.com/questions/48724/100-non-interactive-debian-dist-upgrade) will not work, currently, due to the way apt-listchanges is setup by default. as described on the launchpad bug report, this bug may be easy to fix by changing /etc/apt/listchanges.conf the line frontend=pager should be something that does not require the user to interact. the launchpad bug report recommends that this be frontend=text, but as it is, i have completely removed the program from my system to be on the safe side. i have seen an unrelated article on the debian wiki recommending it be set to frontend=none, however. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-3-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages apt-listchanges depends on: ii apt 0.9.7.5 ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.46 ii debianutils 4.3.3 ii python 2.7.3-2 ii python-apt 0.8.4 ii python-support 1.0.15 ii ucf 3.0025+nmu3 apt-listchanges recommends no packages.
