Package: fluxbox
Version: 0.9.11-1
Severity: normal

I wanted to use the Debian menu system to include user menus in fluxbox.
Just having a ~/.menu directory isn't enough for fluxbox but that should
be ok as long as clear instructions are provided.

First problem is the file
        /usr/share/doc/fluxbox/README.Debian
It only says that
        ~/.fluxbox/init
should be "altered".
That information is of course totally useless : altered ? how ?

Someone pointed me to
        /etc/X11/fluxbox/system.fluxbox-menu
which says a little more
"# to use your own menu, copy this to ~/.fluxbox/menu, then edit
# ~/.fluxbox/init and change the session.menuFile path to
# ~/.fluxbox/menu "

Why wasn't that information included in
        /usr/share/doc/fluxbox/README.Debian ?
There is nothing in the flubox doc that could have directed me to that.

I really wish this could be fixed. I can't imagine any reason not to do
it since it would just take a few seconds to paste the three lines above
in
        /usr/share/doc/fluxbox/README.Debian ?

Second problem is that when I followed these instructions, it didn't
work. I did exactly as instructed above then ran update-menus.
Not only my user menus didn't appear but the system wide Debian menu
disappeared the next time I started fluxbox leaving just the fluxbox
related items. It wasn't even possible to launch a terminal from the
menu.

Finally I tried adding the line
        [include] (~/.fluxbox/menudefs.hook)
to
        ~/.fluxbox/menu
and it worked.

Should I have done that or should it have worked by strictly following
the instructions ? In the latter case, there is a serious bug somewhere.
In the former, it's a minor bug concerning the doc and I really can't
imagine why it couldn't be fixed asap.

I hope this can be useful to you.
Thanks for your work.
