Hi all,
I am a user of debdelta and am interested to see if this comes to
fruition, it would make lot of people's update/upgrade lives easier.

My personal experience with debdelta has been it makes upgrades take
lot less than even 1/3rd of the bandwidth that A Menucc has been
talking about. For e.g. if I take the recent updates in wheezy (about
the various rebuilds with xz compression) then it took less than 10
minutes to upgrade almost 200 MB of upgrades and using somewhere
between 10-15 of real downloads. I think that the ftp-master team
should not just take into account just the bandwidth costs but also
time costs (as the time difference between just downloading the deltas
and downloading the upgrades etc.)

Looking forward to integration of the same in an official repository
(which might jumpstart people into doing the bit of integration of the
debdelta service/command into apt itself.)

Just my 2 paise.
