Package: ifupdown Version: 0.7 Severity: wishlist I would like to assign interface aliases to the network devices configured in /etc/network/interfaces, e.g. "external", "internal", "main", etc.
This would make it much easier to configure network monitoring via Zabbix. The local network interface names different on each host could be avoided. A common Zabbix trigger could watch just the interfaces with the "external" alias, for example. See also ip(8).
