mkdeb certainly has some issues, but complaining is not going to solve them. Please take a look at what the code is currently doing, and figure out how to fix it. Then send us a patch, and we'll apply it. That's how things get done. A volunteer needs to step up to do it. It should be pretty straightforward since the right bits are built, they're just put in a tarball within the deb, rather than in the correct paths. Anyway, it should be fairly easy for anyone with sufficient motivation and a bit of time.
