Umm, when I select a group name from my addressbook in the compose window
it gets expanded to the group members addresses (which on encryption should
trigger what you want). You know, start typing the name, press tab key,
group name appears on the list, select it, magic happens, and all group
address members are added to the header field.

It could that you're pasting or just writting the group name without
selecting it from the typeahead list or from the addressbook? This very
specific action will cause it to not expand, being treated as an address.

RTFM - "Read The Manual" (The 'F' is silent). Usually a very good
  idea. Bjarne Stroustrup
