Dear Hubert, I've checked #681060 "Crash on unicode character paste" and I was able to reproduce it in 2.8.6 so this is not a regression.
I asked for help and it wasn't long until one of the developers responded with patch, see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=681060#27 Although this only fixes "Paste" but not "Paste Unformatted" I hope you can get the ideas from the information provided. Regarding the other issues would you be able to make a list of bugs that you're concerned about so we could address them one by one? Thank you.
