Package: grub-common Version: 1.99-22.1 Severity: normal File: grub Dear Maintainer,
* What led up to the situation? I installed Debian from the following iso on an UEFI Thinkpad T430: http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/non-free/cd-including-firmware/daily-builds/sid_d-i/20120805-1/amd64/iso-cd/ (I know that it's an inofficial image, but I did not have the time to check with the official media. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? I ran the installer from a USB stick. * What was the outcome of this action? The GRUM install part throws an error tahat it could not be installed in the MBR. The error console (F4) told me that there was a syntax error in /usr/bin/grub-installer at line 45. Looking at that file indeed showed a missing "then" in an "if" statement. Adding that "then" and just rerunning the GRUB step of the installer worked for me.
