Oh and one more thing: I've noted that Debian's icinga.conf diverts in one further setting from upstream's (apart from directory and file locations): enalbe_environment_macros is disabled upstream (they tell it requires lots of performance) but enabled at Debian.
I personally have no strong opinion on it... just wanted to hint, in cases it has happened accidentally. Cheers, Chris.
