Not sure, but this looks to me like an ata_piix driver problem, or some
bad interaction between the driver and the kernel.

After every check hda hangs for ~30 seconds.
I am using kernel linux-image-2.6.12-1-686-10.
When not using smartd there is no lost interrupt at any time.
System is with a 945G Chipset and uses ata_piix driver.
