Second level dialogs invariably freeze when using Gimp. I have not experienced the same problem with any other GTK packages. By second level I mean the dialogs started from File, Edit, Select, etc., for example, the "Save a copy" or "Export" dialogs. When the freeze happens the mouse is unable to operate any buttons or other controls. It is possible to operate buttons and controls using keyboard shortcuts and tabbing from one to the next. Sometimes after a long wait, 10 minutes or more, the dialogs will become mousable again.
