I've succesfully uses the fbsplash interface by writing 
"/usr/lib/tuxonice-userui/tuxoniceui -f" to
/sys/power/tuxonice/user_interface/program. I didn't try to set
CONFIG_TOI_USERUI_DEFAULT_PATH but I can try that too. What did you do and
what didn't work?
