Package: nvidia-settings Version: 302.17-2 Severity: important Hi it seems nvidia-settings was updated to 302.17-2 in testing but the dkms package and other packages related to the nvidia binary driver have been kept at 295.59.1. This causes the following error to occur in nvidia-settings:
Unable to load X Server Display Configuration page: The NVIDIA X driver on <install name> is not new enough to support the nvidia-settings Display Configuration page. Here is a grep of installed versions of my nvidia pacakges, I'm no expert but if there are miss matching versions of packages that compose the "Nividia Binary Driver" there are going to be errors like the ones above so those packages probably shouldn't be pushed unless the other packages are ready. The work around was to install the packages from unstable. $ sudo aptitude versions nvidia | grep -v ^p | grep -B 1 ^i Package glx-alternative-nvidia: i A 0.2.2 testing,unstable 990 -- Package libgl1-nvidia-alternatives: i A 295.59-1 testing 990 -- Package libgl1-nvidia-alternatives-ia32: i A 295.59-1 testing 990 -- Package libgl1-nvidia-glx: i A 295.59-1 testing 990 -- Package libgl1-nvidia-glx-ia32: i 295.59-1 testing 990 -- Package libglx-nvidia-alternatives: i A 295.59-1 testing 990 -- Package libnvidia-compiler: i A 295.59-1 testing 990 -- Package libnvidia-compiler-ia32: i A 295.59-1 testing 990 -- Package libnvidia-ml1: i A 295.59-1 testing 990 -- Package nvidia-alternative: i A 295.59-1 testing 990 -- Package nvidia-glx: i 295.59-1 testing 990 -- Package nvidia-glx-ia32: i 302.17-3 unstable 400 -- Package nvidia-installer-cleanup: i A 20120630+1 testing,unstable 990 -- Package nvidia-kernel-common: i A 20120630+1 testing,unstable 990 -- Package nvidia-kernel-dkms: i 295.59-1 testing 990 -- Package nvidia-libopencl1: i A 295.59-1 testing 990 -- Package nvidia-libopencl1-ia32: i 295.59-1 testing 990 -- Package nvidia-opencl-common: i 295.59-1 testing 990 -- Package nvidia-opencl-dev: i 4.2.9-1 testing,unstable 990 -- Package nvidia-opencl-icd: i A 295.59-1 testing 990 -- Package nvidia-opencl-icd-ia32: i 295.59-1 testing 990 -- Package nvidia-settings: i 302.17-2 testing,unstable 990 -- Package nvidia-smi: i A 295.59-1 testing 990 -- Package nvidia-support: i A 20120630+1 testing,unstable 990 -- Package nvidia-vdpau-driver: i A 295.59-1 testing 990 -- Package nvidia-vdpau-driver-ia32: i 295.59-1 testing 990 -- Package nvidia-xconfig: i 302.17-2 testing,unstable 990 -- Package xserver-xorg-video-nvidia: i A 295.59-1 testing 990 Thanks for your time, Kitty -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (400, 'unstable'), (300, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-3-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_AU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_AU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages nvidia-settings depends on: ii libc6 2.13-33 ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 2.26.1-1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.32.3-1 ii libgtk2.0-0 2.24.10-1 ii libpango1.0-0 1.30.0-1 ii libx11-6 2:1.5.0-1 ii libxnvctrl0 302.17-2 ii libxxf86vm1 1:1.1.2-1 ii nvidia-installer-cleanup 20120630+1 ii pkg-config 0.26-1 Versions of packages nvidia-settings recommends: ii libgl1-nvidia-glx [libgl1-nvidia-glx-any] 295.59-1 nvidia-settings suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
