i downgraded xserver-xorg and can now report:
- xserver-xorg_1:7.5+8+squeeze1
works with fglrx-driver 1:12-6-2, but the annoyingwatermark is displayed
`aticonfig` (1:12-6-2) is still unable to detect any supported hardware
- xserver-xorg_1:7.6+13
