I was just looking through the BTS for some other information when I came across this bug. Lucas, have you tried using the "redirect-gateway local" option, as mentioned in the OpenVPN HOWTO at http://openvpn.net/howto.html#redirect ? I don't have your kind of setup so I cannot test this, but it seems from the documentation that this configuration would solve your problem.
