Package: smartmontools Version: 5.42+svn3561-1 Severity: normal I'm trying to use smartctl to query disks on an Areca 1882 controller in JBOD mode. The man page gives examples using /dev/sg[23], but I have no such devices. The man page also suggests examining the contents of files in /proc/scsi, but this also does not exist.
I used "modprobe sg" to create /dev/sg*. Then, I tried "smartctl -a -d areca,1 /dev/sg2" but smartctl is unable to open /proc/scsi/sg/device_hdr. I read that /proc/scsi is deprecated, so smartmontools should be using something else. -- Package-specific info: Output of /usr/share/bug/smartmontools: -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (300, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-2-amd64 (SMP w/32 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages smartmontools depends on: ii debianutils 4.3.1 ii libc6 2.13-33 ii libcap-ng0 0.6.6-2 ii libgcc1 1:4.7.0-8 ii libselinux1 2.1.9-5 ii libstdc++6 4.7.0-8 ii lsb-base 4.1+Debian6 Versions of packages smartmontools recommends: ii bsd-mailx [mailx] 8.1.2-0.20111106cvs-1 Versions of packages smartmontools suggests: ii gsmartcontrol 0.8.6-1.2 ii smart-notifier 0.28-5 -- Configuration Files: /etc/default/smartmontools changed [not included] -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
