Package: smartmontools
Version: 5.42+svn3561-1
Severity: normal

I'm trying to use smartctl to query disks on an Areca 1882 controller
in JBOD mode. The man page gives examples using /dev/sg[23], but I have
no such devices. The man page also suggests examining the contents
of files in /proc/scsi, but this also does not exist.

I used "modprobe sg" to create /dev/sg*. Then, I tried
"smartctl -a -d areca,1 /dev/sg2" but smartctl is unable to open
/proc/scsi/sg/device_hdr.

I read that /proc/scsi is deprecated, so smartmontools should be using
something else.
