I use mtpfs 1.1-2. Yes, it works with '-o allow_other', at least for a while. I can list for example: $ ls -l ~/mtpfs/Tablet/Movies but that shows an empty directory (though there are several files in there). As soon as I attempt to copy a file to ~/mtpfs/Tablet/Movies: kernel: [73790.561899] mtpfs[7775]: segfault at 0 ip 0804c431 sp b6978fa0 error 4 in mtpfs[8048000+7000] kernel: [74449.463714] mtpfs[8090]: segfault at 0 ip 0804c431 sp b69dbfa0 error 4 in mtpfs[8048000+7000] Though, with 'gmtp' copying and listing work as expected. gtmp can even show the contents of Tablet/Movies directory.
