I tried to reproduce, and it seems to work fine here, so indeed it might be related to something else in the stack: gstreamer, alsa or your card drivers. Something I noticed with playing here is that, for example, my PCM channel cannot be muted in alsamixer (M doesn't do anything). When I mute in xfce4-mixer, what it does is to set the volume to 0%, which is seen in the alsamixer UI. Now, when un-muting in xfce4-mixer, nothing is done, and to get the sound back you need to change the volume so it gets back “near” where it was before the “mute”. I'm not sure where the inconsistency lies but it'd be worth trying something like that on your part: play with both xfce4-mixer and alsamixer loaded to see exactly what happens. -- Yves-Alexis
